Officials Hoping Cleveland State's Play Lures Fans

Jan 10, 2011 8:43 AM

Schools officials are hoping that the hot play of Cleveland State will lead to more fans in the stands.

The Vikings, 15-1 overall and 4-0 in Horizon League play entering last Friday night's showdown at perennial powerhouse Butler, rank fifth in the league in home attendance, at 2,419 fans per game.

With football season over, the Cavaliers struggles and an exciting, up-tempo team on its home floor, Cleveland State and new Wolstein Center management company Global Spectrum are introducing new options to draw more fans to the arena — and in some cases draw more revenue from those fans.

Ticket prices were raised to $15 from $10 for general admission for four “premium” games — against Kent (Nov. 14), St. Bonaventure (Nov. 27), South Florida (Dec. 22) and Butler (Feb. 5).

Butler Makes Statement Against Cleveland State

Jan 8, 2011 12:33 PM

Butler made a statement by routing Horizon League rival Cleveland State on Friday night.

The Bulldogs built a 20-point lead early and cruized to a 79-56 victory.

"We weren't in this game after the 10-minute mark," CSU coach Gary Waters said.

It was Cleveland State's first loss in conference play this season.

"We tried to be active, pay their guards a lot of attention, get the ball out of their hands as much as possible" Butler coach Brad Stevens said.
